The docker hat, the soft transition to spring.

Spring is starting to show up with milder and more pleasant temperatures, but the cold days still persist. Dressing your head appropriately during this time can be tricky because it's still too early to put away our toques and take out our caps. So how to do? Well put aside all your winter hats and discover the docker hat. Your best ally to keep your head warm in style while enjoying spring.

So, let's take stock of this elegant and timeless little hat. What are its characteristics and origin? And "the" question we inevitably ask ourselves: how to wear it?

The docker hat, halfway between a toque and a cap.

The docker hat has enjoyed increasing success for several years. Trendy and easy to wear, it has become the essential accessory for a casual chic style.

Some call it docker hat or peakless cap. In Brittany (France) and at Swenn, we call it "miki" and it is one of our flagship products.

In the old days exclusively worn by fishermen on ships and docker workers in ports, the docker hat is now a very popular urban accessory. It is recognizable thanks to its round shape and its typical cuff. Designed without a visor to avoid gusts of wind and free the field of vision, it is adjusted above the ears to clearly hear the sound of the waves. Back then, the "miki" was mostly made of heavy virgin wool, to protect the head from damp cold and wind.

Since then, this sailor beanie has evolved and made a name for itself in streetwear and urban fashion. Having become a real fashion accessory, the docker hat is an iconic piece for Swenn. Subtly discreet, it fits perfectly with all types of clothing and underlines a casual minimalist style.

Kristell, the founder of the brand, reinterprets it through the collections, drawing inspired from her Breton origins and her travels through the Maritime Provinces to adapt it to Quebec's urban culture. The "miki" is deeply connected to the sea and to the preservation of the marine ecosystem. And for the environmentally conscious and slow-fashion enthusiasts, Swenn docker hats are made by a hatter in Montreal with natural fabrics. This year again, new hats in GOTS-certified organic cotton are added to the collection, "something to please your head and the planet".

How to wear it?

In wool as in cotton, the docker hat is easily worn on all hair lengths, tied up or down, as well as on shaved heads. To wear it well, the miki must not be pushed completely down on the head. Positioned just above the tip of the ears, it is worn slightly pushed back or subtly tilted forward.

To wear in summer as in winter, it combines elegantly with all types of clothing by bringing a modern and original touch. Thanks to the wide variety of colors we offer, you will undoubtedly find the color that best suits your style. So what's yours?
